GRETA MAGAZINE

A THREE-ISSUE PERSONAL PROJECT
CREATED FOR THE BUDDING FEMINIST

Greta Magazine is a collection of stories and ideas from volunteer writers. Created for the young feminist, Greta functions as a platform to elevate the diverse perspectives of femininity offered by our community.

This project started as a visual systems study for school, but when I sent out a call on social media for volunteers to write about their experiences and perceptions of femininity, I got an overwhelming response in return! I owed it to the contributors to make it real.

The design thinking in Greta stems from its approachable content directed at young women and people early in their feminist reflections. I wanted to welcome the reader with warm colors and playful compositions, and reflect the diversity and dynamicity of the ideas and experiences shared in the loud, funky typography.

The name “Greta” was in fact bestowed on the magazine before the world knew who Greta Thunberg was (though, I’d be proud to be associated). The name Greta means pearl, which I think is a profound metaphor for the woman. A thing made beautiful not only in spite of, but in response to an unfavorable environment.
